Know Everything About Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is often associated with artificial procedures, but it actually involves the reconstruction of defects on the body and facial tissue caused by trauma, birth disorders or trauma. It is considered as a surgical procedure that generally improves one’s physical features except the central nervous system. It may involve the skin, maxillofacial and congenital anomalies. In fact, surgeons have practiced this surgical procedure for more than 2700 years since 600 B.C. It was in 1893 when the first breast augmentation surgery was conducted in Germany. Breast implants using silicone became notable in the 1960s, but with side effects such as pendulous breasts and breast amputation caused by infection when the patient reached 40 years old. As years went by, development of plastic surgery proliferates with new surgical procedures.
Plastic surgery includes aesthetic or cosmetic procedure and reconstructive procedures. Aesthetic procedures are basically performed to reshape or repair to improve one’s appearance. These procedures may include breast augmentation, breast mammoplasty, liposuction, and rhinoplasty. There are also procedures that are not surgical by nature, through stitching and cutting. Among these non-surgical procedures include laser hair removal, hyaluronic acid injections, chemical peel, botox, and microdermabrasion. Reconstructive procedures, on the other hand, are performed on abnormal body structures caused by infection, tumors, developmental abnormalities, disease, congenital anomalies, and trauma. They are usually done to improve body parts functionality and may also be executed to approximate normal physical appearance.
But before drastic plastic surgery, there are things you need to consider, specifically its pros and cons to help you assess its benefits and risks. The surgical procedure boosts self-esteem and self-confidence either for aesthetic or health purposes. It improves health such as breast reduction, which helps alleviate nasal surgery and chronic back pain. Successful surgeries result in their improved versions as they remove excess skin to make it look better. They enhance your social skills and create social relationships and new circle of friends. However, some of these measures can result in permanent or temporary nerve damage like facelifts. They may expose to blood loss removing tissue and skin. Psychological issues may occur when your surgery turns out unsuccessful or in making an adjustment for your new look though it is for the better. Massive blood loss and trauma after surgery may lead to death. The surgical procedure is definitely costly since it involves life, which is why you will be spending more for different consultations. Physical risks, realistic expectations, and maintenance are the other cons for the surgery.
A survey shows that more than 90% of patients who underwent plastic surgery are women, but it is accessible to both men and women. Patients in their 50s are the usual candidates for any surgical procedures, especially cosmetic surgeries. More than $10 billion annually is spent on cosmetic surgery in the U.S., over $1.2 billion on liposuction, $1.1 billion on breast augmentation and $390 for botox injection.
Alongside technological advancements, plastic surgery is now widely used by many to improve health and live a life that is within their satisfaction level.
